Create Trackable Links

Overview

A trackable link is a short URL that sits in front of a destination and records who used it. The difference from a plain UTM link is where the data ends up: UTM parameters land in your web analytics, disconnected from the person, while a trackable link attaches the click to a contact in the CRM. When that person later shows up in your DMs, the two are already joined. If you have connected a custom domain, links are issued on your domain instead of the default inflowave.io one.

Key Features

  • Short links on the default domain or your own custom domain
  • Clicks attributed to a contact, not just counted
  • Works in DMs, stories, bios, ads and email
  • Attribution survives the gap between the click and the later conversation

How to Create Trackable Links

Open Tracking Links

Go to Tracking Links in the main navigation, at /tracking-links.

Create a link

Add the destination URL you want the link to point at. Give it a name you will still understand in three months - "IG story - Tuesday webinar" beats "link 4".

Use one link per placement

Create a separate link for each place you post it. One link shared across a story, a bio and a DM sequence cannot tell you which of the three worked.

Post it

Use the short link wherever you would have used the raw URL.

Read the result against leads, not clicks

Come back and look at which links produced contacts and conversations, not which got the most clicks. A link with fewer clicks and more conversations is the better placement.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I create a trackable link and see what it produced?

Open Tracking Links from the main navigation (/tracking-links) and create a short link pointing at any destination. Every click is recorded against the lead who clicked it, so the link tells you which post, story or DM produced a conversation rather than only how many people clicked.

Why Create Trackable Links matters

Create Trackable Links sits inside the Links & Web workflow inside Inflowave, and the way you configure it shapes how the rest of the platform behaves. Inflowave was built so the building blocks - accounts, automations, calendars, campaigns - connect cleanly without you having to glue together a third-party stack.

The fastest way to get value out of this is to treat the steps above as a checklist on your first pass, then come back and tune the details after you've seen real traffic flow through. Most teams using Inflowave at scale (agencies running 10-50 client accounts, creators with multiple profiles, businesses with several brand handles) find that the initial setup takes 15-30 minutes per account and pays back within the first day of saved manual replies.

If you run into anything unexpected, the support team replies inside business hours via the in-app chat and the documentation here covers every links & web feature in the same level of detail. The Links & Web section also has companion articles that walk through related workflows - the "Related articles" links at the bottom of this page point at the most-used ones in this category.

Finally, every links & web feature in Inflowave is included in the Basic plan. There is no upsell gate to access create trackable links or any of the steps described above. If your account is missing a button you see in this article, it's almost always because a workflow or permission needs to be enabled - not because it's a paid add-on. Reach out and the team will point you to the toggle.
